Restaurant Lička kuća in Plitvička Jezera, Croatia.
If you're thinking about going to visit Croatia don't forget to visit Plitvička Jezera. Plitvička is one of Croatia's oldest and largest national park, which was registered as a Unesco world heritage site in 1979. There is a daily entry fee of around 34 euro but trust me it's worth it.
We arrived to the park around noon when we started our endavour not knowing it was going to be so vast and breath-taking.
Unfortunately, from where we were staying to the park was a 2 and a half hour drive one way. Driving through the backcountry, on a gravel road with dense forest on either side of a "north american" one laned road, was definitely hard to stomach. I felt like we were going to die several times, as the road twisted and turned making it difficult to tell whether or not any on coming traffic was coming our way. Tourists from all over, were driving the same road, flying past us doing 80km an hour and up while the recommended limit was 60km. All I can say is next time I hope we can drive a different route because I would love to come back.
There are 16 lakes which are seperated by natural dams of travertine (a limestone deposit by mineral springs). Developing by the run off of the surrounding mountains, each lake is so crystal clear and prestige the colours range in several vibrant tones of blues to greens. Providing a plethora of stunning waterfalls around each and every corner, caves and densly packed flora it's the perfect habitat, undisturbed for widely diverse fauna to expand. Although rare, be carefull not to run into a brown bear, wolf or wild cat, as you never know who lives where.
Enjoy the amazing views that nature has to offer in this beautifully preserved gem that the world still has to offer.
